I suspected as much, when I read what requireshate had to say to this, but what with your review and SQT's comments, this is a clear hands-off for me.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-801846083942298570.post-11239856752616599192012-10-19T03:16:09.047-07:002012-10-19T03:16:09.047-07:00Elfy, thanks for your review - I'm glad I came...Elfy, thanks for your review - I'm glad I came here again (after a long time without "kodali")before I bought this book. After what I read here, this won't agree with me (I suspected as much when I read what requireshate had to say) and the author's attitude doesn't help matters, either.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-801846083942298570.post-23114939052882275772011-11-18T05:31:58.092-08:002011-11-18T05:31:58.092-08:00I've read some entertaining rants from authors...I've read some entertaining rants from authors over "bad" reviews on various sites, and all it seems to accomplish is that they go on an internal list of "don't touch with a 10-foot pole" authors. And on the flip-side, an author who is gracious about a "bad" review will often get extra readers because rhey have behaved so well over it.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-801846083942298570.post-51417463916809684502011-11-16T01:36:49.551-08:002011-11-16T01:36:49.551-08:00I've fortunate in that all my interactions wit...I've fortunate in that all my interactions with authors here and elsewhere so far have been positive experiences that have enhanced my opinion of the author.Elfyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09955473789404631382noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-801846083942298570.post-28203240083530862682011-11-15T14:54:53.314-08:002011-11-15T14:54:53.314-08:00I think we all debate putting up negative reviews-...I think we all debate putting up negative reviews- there always seems to be a downside. But in the long run it's always better to be honest. I do think it's poor form when an author jumps into the discussion. I just avoid that author from that point on-- even if it's not my review being scrutinized.SQThttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04251030404220909306noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-801846083942298570.post-35508109869125784712011-11-15T13:11:55.398-08:002011-11-15T13:11:55.398-08:00I did debate about putting up the review, because ...I did debate about putting up the review, because not liking something that is all the rage can occasionally cause some fall out, but it's my opinion. I didn't care for the book or the characters, but others may. Judging by the talk everyone, most do.
I'm sorry you had a bad experience all around with it.Elfyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09955473789404631382noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-801846083942298570.post-26006870704860949002011-11-15T08:44:07.611-08:002011-11-15T08:44:07.611-08:00Oh this book. I put a post up on my blog about the early rape scene and why that kept me from continuing on-- I had to field a few emails from the author for that. Nothing disrespectful, but it does make one uncomfortable. I also found out that some comments on the thread that were supposedly from a "fan" in defense of the book were in fact the author.

Not wanting to be unfair I gave the review copy to another reviewer and put a finished copy up for giveaway on my blog. The final review was mostly positive but had the caveat that it might not be for everyone. That resulted in a slightly snarky inclusion on "the bad" list of Lawrence's list of reviews on his site and a bout of emails between my reviewer and the author that led to some bad feelings on the side of my reviewer-- as well as another flurry of comments on the post that just ended up aggravating me.

Finally, the "winner" of the contest for the book declined to take it. She said she had checked it out of the library to see what it was like and hated it. I ended up sending her a book by Kat Richardson instead. First time I ever had someone decline a book.

I'm staying away from this series from now on.SQThttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04251030404220909306noreply@blogger.com
